GOL GUMBAZ

The country's largest and the world's second-largest dome, Gol Gumbaz is a work of architectural genius. This mausoleum of Muhammed Adil Shah was constructed in 1656 by architect Yaqut of Dabul.

The name “Gol Gumbaz” is derived from “Gola Gombadh” or “Gol Gomata,” which simply translates to “circular dome”. 

BARAHA KAMAN

The most mystifying in the unfinished edifice known as the Bara Kaman, or twelve arches. Arches that are silently crumbling, yet graceful. Almost in the centre of the city, and to the north-west of the citadel, is a large square building, roofless and with unfinished arches in dark basalt.

This is the tomb of Ali Adil Shah II (1656-72). 

SHRI SIDDESHWAR TEMPLE

Shri Shiddeshwar Temple, one of the temples of Bijapur District is situated at the heart of the city. This is not only a holy place for Hindus but also a very beautiful tourist place to visit. During Makar Sankranti an annual fare is organized by Shri Siddheswar Temple. This fair is widely known for the cattle market, which is organized outside the city boundaries. 

GAGAN MAHAL

This impressive monument was built by Adil Shahi Sultan Ali Adil Shah I around 1561. Gagan Mahal then was used as royal residence and also as the Durbar Hall. Today just this 21m facade remains. The ceiling is no longer there and admission to the crumbling rooms which was the private residence of the King is not permitted. mausoleum in India, featuring art and architectural characteristics from a bygone era.

SANGEETH NARI MAHAL

This is one of the most important visible representations of Adilshahi architecture in the region. This 16th century monument is located 3 km away from Bijapur town. It comprises of remains of a palace building and a pond enclosed by a high wall.    The palace is notable for its unique design and purpose, as it was primarily constructed for the entertainment of the royal women in the court.

IBRAHIM ROUZA

Ibrahim Rauza which is the tomb complex where Ibrahim Adil Shah II is buried along with his wife queen Taj Sultana. It is one among the supreme achievements of the Adil Shahi’s which is remarkably considered and finely decorated. It was completed in the year 1627 by Ibrahim Adilshah –II, it is a square structure with twin buildings and delicate carvings. The building was designed by the Persian architect Malik Sandal 

SHANKARALINGA TEMPLE

The shankaralinga temple consists of garbhagriha, an antrala and pillared hall.The pillared hall has three mukhamandapaswith steps leading into  it.There is a kakshasana in one of the mukhamandapas.On elevation the  temple is raised over an adhishtana comprising jagate , kumuda and kapota. Temple Walls are  alternative models of pilasters and sculptures.

SHRI DATTATRAYA TEMPLE

The temple belongs to 12 century CE built in Western Chalukyan style on plan.It consists of a garbhagriha, a vestibule, a closed mandapa with four central pillars and porches to the three sides.     

The temple has no Sikhara and only a pyramidal tower in roughly cut masonry adorned the mainshrine.  

LAKSHMI NARASIMHA TEMPLE

This is a 1000 year old temple of lord Narasimha, which is surrounded by a lake and a fort. It is also an  great historical temple Survived the period of Mughal, British etc..

In the temple compound there are other small temples too.It is ancient temple where the main deity's idol is inside a narrow cave like passage.

MEHTAR MAHAL

The Mehtar Mahal, Bijapur was built during the reign of Ibrahim Adil Shah II. It is a little gem, an ornamental gateway leading to the Mehtar Mosque that has been a point of interest for ages. This moderate-sized 17th-century mosque has a legend that Emperor Adil Shah II’s sweeper contributed the gold coins showered upon him by the emperor into creating this masterpiece and hence it earned the name as The Sweeper’s Palace. 

UPPALI BURUZ

Built around 1584 by Hyder Khan, is an 80-foot-high (24 m) tower standing to the north of Dakhani Idgah in Vijayapura. This is a spherical structure with stone steps winding round the outside. Top of the tower offers a commanding view of the city. This is also known as “Hyder Burj”, “Upli Burj”.

On top of Upli Burj there are two guns of huge size. 

MALIK-E-MAIDAN

Tourists are recommended to visit Malik-e-Maidan or 'Lord of the Battlefield', which is a huge cannon set up by Muhammad Adil Shah I in 1549 on the top of Sherzah Burj in Bijapur. It faces towards the west at the plains outside the city of Bijapur.

Located 3 km from the district of Bijapur, this cannon is believed to be the largest warhead of the medieval era.

Anand Mahal

A structure dating back more than 500 yearsis being restored, in more ways than one.


Anand Mahal, built during the reign of Ibrahim Adil Shahi II in the 16th century, is not only being renovated, it is also being transformed into an interpretation centre for tourism in Vijayapura district. 

Asar Mahal

The Asar Mahal was built by Mohammed Adil Shah in about 1646, which was used to serve as a Hall of Justice. The building was also used to house hairs from the Prophet’s beard. The rooms on the upper storey are decorated with frescoes and the front is graced with a square tank. Here women are not allowed inside. Every year there is urs (festival) held at this place. 

Shivagiri Temple

Gurudevan's association with Sivagiri in Varkala in south Kerala dates back to 1904. A lover of nature and places of natural beauty, Narayana Guru built a hermitage on top of the Sivagiri hill and stayed there, growing plants around it, and the once-solitary hill began to attract public attention.

 

Saat Manzil

Sat Manzili was originally a seven-storeyed palace but now only five floors exist. It is conjectured that it was a pleasure pavilion built in 1583 during the reign of Ibrahim II Adil Shah. An engraving of a painting of this building by W Turner can be seen in The Palace of Seven Stories.

Dr. B R Ambedkar Stadium

It was earlier known as Corporation Stadium. It has held competitions like Delhi Football League, DCM Trophy, Subroto Cup and Durand Cup. It houses offices of Football Delhi, earlier known as Delhi Soccer Association. It was renovated and reopened in 2007 and has a listed capacity of 35,000.

Jama Mosque

The Jama Masjid of Bijapur  is a congregational mosque in the Indian state of Karnataka. Initiated by Ali Adil Shah I of the Bijapur Sultanate in the 16th century, the mosque was never completed. It is the largest mosque in Bijapur, and has a capacity of 4000 worshippers.

Siddheshwar Ashram

It originally belonged to Rani Rashmoni who was an Indian businesswoman, Zamindar, philanthropist and the founder of the Dakshineswar Kali Temple in Kolkata. She remained closely associated with Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa after she appointed him as the priest of the temple.
